Committee Leaders Urge Prompt Rescheduling of Canceled Hearings

April 3, 2025

USDA and VA Secretaries No Longer Expected to Appear Before the Committee Next Week

WASHINGTON — House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Subcommittee on Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration Ranking Member Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. (GA-02), and Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Ranking Member Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25) released the following statement after receiving notification that next weeks’ hearings with U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins and Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins have been canceled:

“At a time when unchecked billionaire Elon Musk and President Trump are dismantling government, we are disappointed that next week’s Secretary-level hearings have been canceled. We urge the administration to notify the Committee by the end of next week of new dates when the witnesses are available. Secretaries must appear before the Committee so that Congress can exercise its oversight authority and power of the purse.”
