Statement : State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs

October 27, 2021 Statement
"Recovery from the pandemic must mean more than just recovery from the COVID-19 disease.  We need to think through how we can help countries build their resilience for the long-term and preserve our development and health gains."
July 28, 2021 Statement
"The State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs funding bill puts those words into action. It makes America stronger at home and respected again in the world. It restores American leadership by responding to global health threats, including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. And it addresses urgent humanitarian needs while confronting the climate crisis."
July 28, 2021 Statement
"With unprecedented levels of human suffering and so many complicated challenges around the world, the bill rightfully increases funding for global health and the prevention of future pandemics and for migration, refugee, and disaster assistance, and continues our support for key allies and partner organizations such as the UN."
July 27, 2021 Statement
“I’m very proud that the bill and report before you today provide much-needed investments in the health and safety of our global community and in improving the lives and livelihoods of millions of people around the world.”
July 16, 2021 Statement
"The strength of the bills that we have considered and the quality, the tenor, of the debate was outstanding, it reminds us all and it should remind us all that this is the best committee in the House of Representatives and, in fact, our work is at the center of the government and it doesn’t go forward without us."
July 1, 2021 Statement
"I am proud that the bill before us today restores American leadership around the globe in dealing with responding to threats, including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, addressing urgent humanitarian needs, and confronting the climate crisis."
July 1, 2021 Statement
"A deadly pandemic still rages in most of the world. New COVID variants, left unchecked, could soon overwhelm our domestic efforts to defeat the virus. A global economic hangover caused by the pandemic has pushed millions who recently climbed out of extreme poverty back into deprivation. We need to address this economic damage lest it slow our own recovery at home. And the United Nations anticipates that more than 235 million people require humanitarian assistance and protection - which is a 40 percent increase over 2020 - and 80 million people have been forcibly displaced – the highest on record – the United States must lead."
June 29, 2021 Statement
“After decades of disinvestment and the devastation of the coronavirus pandemic, the American economy is seriously out of balance, favoring the wealthy and well connected and leaving working families behind. But we can reverse these trends. With our funding bills this year, we will invest in the American people: creating good-paying jobs, growing opportunity, and providing a lifeline to the middle class, working families, small businesses, and the vulnerable."
June 28, 2021 Statement
"After four years where the United States was often too disruptive or absent on the world stage, I am pleased that President Biden has sent a clear message: America is back. This legislation backs that message with action. It restores American leadership around the world by responding to global health threats, including the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, confronting the climate crisis, and addressing urgent humanitarian needs."
June 28, 2021 Statement
"The resources included in the bill represent much-needed investments in diplomacy and development, which have been overshadowed by the defense budgets for far too long. While we still have a long way to go, we’re making progress."
